FARMDATA, an Internet-based smartphone-compatible records management system for produce farmers, is now open source and available for free public downloads. FARMDATA is a web-based database system for entering and reporting crop production records, including seeding, transplanting, harvest, cover crop, compost, fertilization, irrigation, pest scouting, spray activities, packing and distribution records and customer invoicing.
The FARMDATA download page includes a wiki with a users manual and installation guide. To install a new FARMDATA account, you will need to work with your web master or a tech-savvy friend to do the initial setup on your existing website or a new web server. Once the code is in place, there is a new-account setup phase designed to be quick and painless. A free training webinar on use and installation of FARMDATA is scheduled for February 19th at 1:00 pm, hosted by Small Farm Central.
